SUMMARY OF LECTURECompetitiveness of the soils for sustainable citrus production.
The Brazilian citus crops is included in agribusiness system and for its sustainable management it is necessary to sepatare the objectives as for the business the main focus is yield that is “make more with less” but for the agro system the focus is sustainability “make the maximum with the minimum” managing the biological needs of the plants like water, CO2 fixation and the minerals. It is necessary to point that in biology the production factors cannot be restricted neither as excess nor lack, but the right dosage. So we are going to be restricted in physical and chemical attributes of the soil with the presentation of a new proposition to evaluate the soil quality, through an index, called IQS ( Indice de Qualidade do Solo) or Soil Quality Index as an indicator of its production sustainability. This Index would take the correct use of inputs and would avaliate the agronomic risks as a rating of its competitiveness.
